Mattel #6305 Rocket Launch Pak

#6305 Rocket Launch Pak Card Front

One of the initial release accessory packs available to Major Matt Mason since the toy line's inception, the Rocket Launch Pak is one of the most sought after. The Rocket Launch Pak featured one of the shooting platforms that Mattel put together for the Major Matt Mason line, which included the Rocket Launch Pak, the Satellite Launch Pak, and the Space Probe Pak. All these toys had the common elements of a flat, platform-like structure and a projectile that could be fired during play. These were also pictured as being attended by a figure, with some type of 1/12th scale control that a figure could manipulate. Eventually all three platforms, along with the Gamma Ray Gard, could be mounted on the Mobile Launch Pad, further expanding playability by providing mobility.

The Rocket Launch Pak appears as a tripod shaped triangular platform forming one acute angle. Mounted in this acute angle is a small barrel, which may be adjusted in elevation (up and down - to provide some distance aiming) upon which the red Rocket would mount. The Rocket is held by a clip attached to a lever, which may be attached to a string. When the string was pulled, the Rocket would shoot into the air. Since the Rocket could also be loaded with a Greenie Stik-M-Cap via a spring clip, the Rocket would provide a resounding "bang" on impact! The opposite, flat end of the triangle held a figure via boot clips, who stood in front of a control console (further enhancing the realism). The pack also came with a pair of chrome walkie-talkies, a roto-jet gun (which was a knock-off from Mattel's earlier Lost In Space toy), and a chrome knife with sheath and belt (the belt is a shorter version of the Jet Propulsion Pak belt).

The card reads: "Launches Mighty Rockets by Remote Control! Pierces the Deepest Reaches of Darkest Space! Immediate or Distant Remote Control Firing!

The Rocket Launch Pak is an essential part of any loose collection. Any accessory that helped hold a figure, especially in the standing position, is welcome to most collectors. Any of the first three accessory "platform" toys are difficult to find carded, as they were part of the initial release and do not appear to have been available after 1968 except as warehouse stock.
