Pat LeBlanc's Space Ship Case V2 Custom

Submitted by Pat LeBlanc 2015.08.11

While working through the details of the Space Ship Case Decks, Pat sidelined into this project - I believe he took the idea of the clear conical top from my MMM Prototype case and went with more of an Apollo look. The first post is really unrelated to this but I thought it would be a good idea to preserve the info for posterity.

Pat writes:

2015.07.04 I thought I would take a picture of the interior graphics of the Space Ship Case.  The larger graphics are legible even from outside the case through the door.  But the smaller darker boxes are hard to read even when the case is unrolled.  The one below the couch deck says "MAIN DISCONNECT".  The ones above the couch deck, from left to right read "SUB FEED"; "LIGHTING MAIN"; "AIR COND"; "WATER PUMP" and "MAIN".  "O" is for oxygen.  I assume "H" is for hydrogen.  No kerosene for this baby! As close as I can determine, the width is 20-5/16" and the height is 12-7/8".

2015.08.11 Because I'm stubborn, I haven't given up on the Space Ship Case yet.  I am working on reproducing the whole thing with some modifications.  Here is a first attempt at the door.  It is made from two pieces of Styrene: one vacuum-formed and one flat.  It will not have the flat area with MMM logo.  The hinge is folded duct tape.  The twist lock will be replaced with a "space age magnetic latch".

The shell will be rolled from a Styrene sheet. I'm working on the interior "decals" now. The ladder has been moved to the middle (opposite the door). This allowed me to include an opening and two couches.

Here is the left half of the lower section. The right half will be the mirror image (with the other half of the ladder).

2015.08.12 Here's a progress shot.  No decals yet.  The Plexiglas nose cone is more like Apollo.  The external markings will be similar in style to the original case but more reminiscent of a Saturn (black and white with red lettering)

2015.08.16 Here is a peek at what the exterior of the "Apollo" case will look like (one half of the bottom and one half of the top).  They are based on the Saturn 1B.

2015.08.23 The new Space Ship Case has landed and the crew has unpacked their gear.

The Command Pilot's control station

2015.08.29 Here is a panoramic view of the outside before the door is attached.  The styrene shell is covered inside and out with ink jet printed card stock.  This is the opposite of the original which was vinyl covered cardboard.
