Das Spielzeug January 1968

Das Spielzeug January 1968 Front Cover

I came across this interesting German Toy Industry Magazine a few years ago - the use of the Moon Scene from the cover of the Mattel 1967 "Fall" Catalog (which was also reused in Europe for the Mattel 1968 Spielzeug Catalog and possibly others) caught my eye. It has an interesting photo of a Major Matt Mason toy store display and a small blurb in multiple languages describing the cover.

On Page 69 there's this great photo of German and Japanese toy people discussing Major Matt Mason with a very large 3D display:

The blurb for the photo:

Page 79, third column has in German, French and finally English.:

Our frontispiece shows a cross-section through the new toy space programme of the Mattel GmbH, which will be introduced at the 1968 Nuremberg Toy Fair. These toys are typical Mattel functional toys, that means any single article is functionally designed for playing. These mechanical toys are operated by batteries.

John's Notes

I've only seen one other copy of this same issue for sale a few months ago (2023) on eBay Germany. One other Das Spielzeug has come up for auction that I've noted but no mention of MMM - I'm not sure how successful this magazine was for its time.
