Pat LeBlanc's Flying Superhero MMM Custom

Submitted by Pat LeBlanc 2016.06.05

For this project Pat took a bit of a departure from MMM-scaled vehicles to produce a fun toy originally marketed by Transogram in the 60's and 70's - the Flying Superhero (example of Superman below):

Transogram Flying Superman

You basically have this lightweight figure in flying position with a trailing cape to act as a wing. It's propelled by a rubberband held by a handle (sort of a slingshot without the typical "v" holding the rubber band ends - instead the the other end of the rubberband loops over a hook on the missile.

2016.06.05 I decided to try to make a MMM version of the Transogram flying superheroes..  It's twice the scale of Matt (12" tall) with a thin Plexiglas "wing" in lieu of a cape (still has a jet pack).  This is just a proof of concept.  I haven't had a chance to see how well it flies (too rainy).

Here is a video of the first "flights" in my back yard. It goes about 25 to 30 feet (about the same as hand launching an XRG-1).
