Mattel #6361 XRG-1 Reentry Glider with Major Matt Mason

#6361 XRG-1 Reentry Glider with Major Matt Mason

Another one of the rarest MMM items is this packaging variation, which includes both the XRG-1 Reentry Glider and a Major Matt Mason figure with helmet. These items were presented on a modified 6360 XRG-1 Reentry Glider card, with the Major mounted to the card back on a yellow-backed blister. Only a handful of these have turned up. Sorry about the crappy image - I'll take better at some point.

Mattel Catalog Specifications:

This MMM playset does not exist in any Mattel Catalogs that I currently own or know about. It may have been solicited for via tear-sheet or, more likely was a catalog exclusive for a department store chain.

John's Notes:

This is one of the rarest Major Matt Mason playsets. I have not been able to find a listing for this item in any Mattel or department store catalog. It is unknown where this item was distributed, making it a rarity by any standard. Since it came in both an English and an bilingual Canadian version it's my opinion that it was Simpson-Sears or similar, that exists along the US-Canada border. Eventually more information will turn up, but at present, it remains an explained mystery.
