Major Matt Mason's space buddy Doug Davis, the Space
Scientist-Radiologist.
Doug comes with a red/orange Cat Trac on a green-printed moonscape
background (depicting figures around a space station). Doug Davis
typically is found waving as are most other figures on cat trac cards.
The card reads: "Major Matt Mason's space buddy Doug Davis [Space
Scientist-Radiology} Rides his lunar trac - Researches areas of cosmic
ray penetration...Flexible space suit bends at all joints!...Separate
space helmet with movable visor!"
MMM Astronaut DOUG DAVIS
Doug is perhaps the second-rarest of the astronaut figures. Besides
the astronaut assortments, he was available in 2 sets, the Space Mission
Team and the Space Discovery Set. There are three known packaging
variations of the cat trac card (see below). Doug could also be found in
the window-boxed, Space Center "Astronaut" box (see below).

The card is full-color, process-printed and is 8" x 5" x 2 1/4"
Copyright is 1968. The card reads: "Major Matt Mason's space buddy Doug

Variations:
At some point, Mattel went to a tall-card variation of Doug (and all
other cat trac carded figures). I've seen no explanation for the
change...perhaps they were updating the look of the line (this can also
be seen with the items released late in 69 and in 70, with the 60's/70's
Mod color combinations).

John's Notes:
Doug is the second hardest-to-find figure MIP, as he was only
available in the two assortments that list this package. He may be found
more often loose, as he was included in both the Space Mission Team set
and the Space Discovery Set.
