Major MATT MASON® Mattel's Man-in-Space

Mattel's Man-in-Space toy line introduced us to four astronauts and three aliens (four if you count Or) plus a handful of other characters developed (through a licensing deal with Mattel) by Western Publishing for Whitman paper products. There are also the CIPSA characters that one might consider as "South of the Border" extensions of the line.

Major MATT MASON®

The first astronaut of the toy line and initially the only figure, Major Matt Mason was created to be the "typical" astronaut (based on the Mercury astronauts and contemporary 1967's theories of space). Click here for more information.

SGT. STORM

DOUG DAVIS

CALLISTO

Callisto was Major Matt Mason's friend from Jupiter. He was the mysterious alien with advanced mental powers (represented by his transparent, veined green head). Click here for more information.

CAPT. LAZER

SCORPIO

Often called the "villain" from the toy line was the alien Scorpio "...whose large eyes and mouth flash with the light of another intelligence!"Turns out he was actually an ally! Click here for more information.

Or was packaged with the Orbitor craft and solicited in the Mattel 1970 "Fall" Catalog - however with the exception of a few prototypes no packaged examples have surfaced. Click here for more information.

CIPSA Capitán Meteoro

Capitán Meteoro

Capitán Meteoro is the hero of Mexico's space saga - "The Brave Conqueror of Space." Click here for more information.

Atomo

Atomo was the "brave intergalactic defender" and "inseparable ally of Capitán Meteoro! Otherwise a repainted Capitán Meteoro with different gear. Click here for more information.

Cripton El Perverso!

Cripton was the Evil One - your basic worst enemy of Capitán Meteoro who together with Scorpio are on a mission of destruction! Click here for more information.

Scorpio El Tirano!

Scorpio is the evil twin of the US Scorpio, an "Intergalactic enemy of Capitán Meteoro. He intends to capture and enslave the Universe! Click here for more information.
