The Astronaut Capitán Meteoro - Who is he?
Capitán Meteoro was CIPSA's take on a hero astronaut - "El Intrépido Conquistador del Espacio" ("The Brave Conqueror of Space"). Capitán
Meteoro is a white rubber Sgt Storm (a Mattel molded astronaut with a Sgt. Storm head) with red straps/belts
and white boots. His bellows are unpainted and in one picture he has on a
silver helmet and black boots. There's also a yellow rubber Sgt Storm
with blue boots, called "Atomo."All currently known production figures have simplified detailing with one applied color (red, even the "flag" is red), and lack painted details on their backs. The helmet is molded in gray/silver plastic with a bad mold crack below the visor, and a yellow molded clear visor.

Capitán Meteoro with Helmet and Cat Trac
|
Meteoro was packaged with a silver/gray molded Cat Track and a Silver Helmet with pale yellow visor. Besides being molded in white with the red accents, his boots are in a silver/gray that matches the helmet and Cat Trac.

On the front/back of the Capitán Meteoro package (and used elsewhere on package sides), the entire figure is white and appears to have been spray-painted white
with brushed-on detailing. On Meteoro's chest, old glory is replaced by a
blue rectangle with hand-painted white stars. All currently known
production figures have simplified detailing, with only the color red as a detail accent (even
the "flag" is red), and lack painted details on their backs. The helmet
in the box image appears to be an original Mattel product. Paul and I
believe the figures shown on most box art to be 'prototypes', e.g .
repainted US Storm figures. They show a lot more detail on their suits
than any of the figures that have come to light so far.
CIPSA Packaging:
- Ordering details are unknown (someday a CIPSA catalog and/or order sheet will surface I hope)
Accessories:
- Helmet - Gray/silver Helmet with pale yellow visor (no paint around the visor's rim). There's a noticeable crack beneath the face opening that appears to be from the mold.

- Cat Trac - referenced as "Fabuloso "Cosmonautic" para trabajo espacial. - Fabulous "Cosmic Vehicle" for space work." It's molded in the same gray/silver plastic as the helmet and Meteoro's boots.

John's Notes:
Loose Capitán Meteoro figures seem fairly common but rarely in decent shape, often with most painted details missing and many broken wires. He's commonly found without a helmet and very rarely with the silver molded cat trac. The CIPSA figures seem to be very fragile and very reactive to the softer plastics (so commonly the cat trac and other accessories have "melt" marks from being stored adjacent to the figures). The rubber polymer used to manufacture the figures seems to be a bit different from the typical Mattel figure so care should be taken in handling in storage.
