This small Q&A regarding Major Matt Mason was published in The Nashville Tennessean on October 19, 2001 in an Antique column that was probably a regular offering (the Kovels were well-known antique dealers who wrote many books and guides regarding collectibles). There weren't many collectors of Major Matt Mason items in 2001 (I started collecting around 1997 so pre-eBay) so this was fairly early for contemporary collectors when the web/internet was still very young.

What can you tell me about a Major Matt Mason action-figure toy? I came across one at a flea market, but there was no box or other information.

Major Matt Mason was the leading toy in a line of U.S. space-exploration toys made by Mattel. The toys were marketed from 1967 through the early 70's. The Matt Mason line also included play sets and rocket ships.
