Question & Answer Answered On
Q: Does this figure work: eyes and chest and gun light up, make buzzing sound? Also ... um .... nearly $30 for shipping sounds very high. Can you confirm? Thanks. GR Jul-05-10

A: Hello GR, Working perfectly, eyes, chest & gun light up and it's also making a buzzing sound. Shipping cost listed of $24.75 is really the best we can do from Canada, you know it in advance so there is no surprises. We might even loose on that shipping. Kind Regards

My Take:
Also Canadian location (US box), same seller as Firebolt in the previous auction.

L180 RARE MOC NR MATTEL CALLISTO MAJOR MATT MASON

We offer for your consideration this RARE MOC Figure of Callisto from Mattel. He was Major Matt Mason's friend from Jupiter, Callisto the mysterious alien with advanced mental powers. He comes equipped however with unique equipment of his own. A space sensor that slips over his head and upper body with a power assisting bellows. Each of these are molded in a purple plastic with a clear tubing that attaches from the bellows to the sensor gun. Retail Value Estimate: $250-$275
Condition: orig packaging re-wrapped
Weight: 4oz
Measurements (LxWxH): 6.25 inches x 2.125 inches x 1.125 inches

My Take:
It's been a while since I've seen a MOC Callsito - I especially like these later orange back-ground cards. This is the tall boot variant. I think I would have been wary of buying this one after seeing that yellowed thumbnail in one of the images below - makes me wonder what brand of tobacco  smoke that Callisto smells like?

Questions and answers about this item
Q: Are the instructions and sticker sheet with the item?
A: this item is unused, old store stock. instructions and decals are present.

My Take:
I think this is actually a better set than the one that sold previously in July with the sticker sheet intact. The Canadian box in the earlier auction was prettier, however, as the cardboard used was white faced and holds up better to the elements (US boxes reveal the acids in the paper as a darkening you don't see in the Canadian boxes).

MATTEL MAJOR MATT MASON DOUG DAVIS SWEET VINTAGE TOY

Item number: 140430877976
Ended: Jul 25, 2010 18:47:26 PDT
Winning bid: US $255.00

Description:
MATTEL ITS SWELL.....SWEET ......ITS CALLED THE MAJOR MATT MASON HE IS DOUG DAVIS......NEVER PLAYED WITH ..NEVER TAKEN OUT OF THE PACKAGE...STILL HAS THE CARD ON BOTTOM OF HIS FEET .... BUBBLE HAS WEAR ...BUBBLE LIFTED OFF ON ONE SIDE HALF SIDE WAY ..AND ON TOP A LITTLE ....1968...VINTAGE SPACE ..COMES FROM A SMOKE FREE HOME.........WINNER WILL PAY SHIPPING......VERY COOL LOOKING BOX........GOOD LUCK..

My Take:
I think the average Doug Cat Trac cards have firmly planted themselves in the $250 range. I think that for most MMM collectors he's just not as desirable - I'm not sure if that's because many did not own him as a kid or if there is an abundance of DD cards on the market (there does appear to be a lot of them). No extra pics on this one.

ASTRONAUT MINT BOXED MAJOR MATT MASON HK RIP RARE

SPACE SCOOTER AND SUPER JET BOOSTER REDBOX

Item number: 230504747628
Ended: Aug 04, 2010 08:38:35 PDT
Winning bid: US $158.05

Description:
This large 12 inch doll is a hong kong rip of the famous major matt mason toy , it was only removed from box for photo , i presume from the early 70s and the trade name redbox is on the box , check out the other space items i am selling , all from my own collection

My Take:
Apparently there are still people who want this knock-off. I never thought he was anything special - this is the variant with the sewn stripes (I have one loose) - there's also versions with printed suits and some have yellow helmets (and potentially yellow sleds). The figure comes with various names but usually some variation of "Astronaut" and in both 8 and 12 inches in height. Think of it as a cross between an MMM figure and a GI Joe Astronaut (the head sculpt appears to be a GI Joe). The instructions on the back are right from an MMM flight card, with some modifications. I think most of these made it to Mexico, South America and Europe - they don't seem to be common in the US.

MATT MASON w/ MOON SUIT ON CARD NEW RARE 1966 SEE PICS

Item number: 260650964097
Ended: Aug 21, 2010 20:27:57 PDT
Winning bid: US $842.00

Description:
Hello, Up for auction here is one of my dearest toys from my past. Mattel's Man in Space Major Matt Mason with Moon Suit. Set is from 1966. NEVER OPENED. Card has obviously received some water damage during storage. All Pieces are present and in excellent condition. Card is less then stellar...more like poor but it is still there. Please see all of the pics and feel free to email me with any questions.

(wrench and hammer are hard to see in pics but they are there. They just slid over a bit and are in 2 compartments)

My Take:
All of these "Deluxe" cards are rare and super desirable in any condition, as evident in the winning bid. I think pristine examples should still sell in the $2000-2500 range. It's especially rare to find a Moon Suit card with arms that haven't disintegrated (these may be hard but they still look good).

Major Matt Mason Figure - Near Mint in Original Package

Item number: 330464701110
Ended: Aug 31, 2010 17:14:33 PDT
Winning bid: US $180.19

Description:
Major Matt Mason figure on original card. The figure and cat trac are in near mint condition, no head rubs, no marks on face. The helmet visor is clear with no scratches. The figure has been removed from the card and the plastic is attached to the cardboard on one side only. There is a tear in the plastic on the upper left corner and the cardboard shows some yellowing.

My Take:
This certainly would have sold for a bit more under better economic circumstances - what killed this one were the images with the figure out of the package. Not a terribly uncommon card, in a bit better condition I would expect it to sell more in the $200+ range.
