Matt Mason/Barbie 1967 Funny Face Drink Contest Display
THIS IS THE OTHERONLY EXISTING COUNTER STORE DISPLAY AND IT'S OURS! THE PRICE GOES ACCORDING TO THE RARITY OF THIS PIECE!
After been convinced by our close Barbie friends, we have decided to sell part of our HUGE BARBIE RARE COLLECTION of 30 years and we are oh... so sad to do so, but i guess our loss will be someone else's gain, right?
This auction is for a RARE BARBIE/MATT MASON FUNNY FACE DRINK COUNTER STORE DISPLAY made up of a 25"x13 1/4" printed cardboard sheet with an actual carded Matt Mason doll and boxed Barbie doll glued to it. The top of the display has the characters touting the contest while the bottom has a space to put a tear off pad. There are two small holes at the top where it could be hung from in the grocery store. It is from 1967.
There is only one known display and it's this one! You won't find it anywhere else and you will NOT be disappointed! Please take a close look at photos, read description carefully and ask all and any necessary questions before placing a bid since there will be no returns on this item. This is SOLD AS IS. My Take:
I usually only post items that actually sell on eBay - in this case, the auction ran twice (the previous in August - same info and of course it was relisted as it didn't sell) and I'm showing only due to the rarity of the item. This seller is what I call an "eBay Dreamer" - someone who has something that in his/her eyes is worth more than gold. The prices asked for are rather ridiculous - also some of the statements made regarding the item are false - there are actually about a handful of these going around (I know of the sale of 3 or 4 - one rather recent). I can see this going for the $5-10K price range but no where near the asked for price.

Very nice card - I'm surprised it didn't sell for more as this is one of the better examples I've seen in a while.

Here's a 44 year old, classic Major Matt Mason Space Station Toy Set manufactured way back in 1966.
As you can see from the photo-images above, the set is in extraordinary condition overall. And appears to have never been played with or assembled. However, there may be a few factory marks from where the pieces shifted in the box during transport to a toy store. But we are condition minded collectors, and know the winning bidder will be very pleased.
The box is in exceptional condition, as you can also see from the photos. Some natural aging, transport and shelf wear, but overall a very fine example. Note, one interior lid-tab has come loose, but is still present on the open lid of the box.
All parts are accounted for. The instructions / detailed parts / decals are still sealed in their original factory bag, which is extremely difficult to come across.
First time we've offered this item for sale, including at auction on eBay.
My Take:
This is one of those boxed sets that will always retain its value - I am surprised it sold so cheap - typically OSS stations sell in the $500+ range. Of course the box isn't perfect and appears to be missing the insert and paperwork - but those aren't impossible to find. I think someone got a good deal here.

This is a great example of a rare unpunched Major Matt Mason blue strap early figure with the space sled and backpack. Has the original 2.99 Kmart sticker. look at all the pictures before you bid. last one I saw on eBay went for $400 so the starting bid is very fair.

I thought this was pretty cool - I'm not sure if I would have paid $150 for it, but someone sure liked it. Basically a GI Joe on a custom space sled - neat stuff. The column on the sled looks to be a little out of proportion and the top? In any case, still something cool to have in ones collection.

From the same seller as the above but I don't believe quite as well done. Another cool item to have, the Cat Track proportions are once again kind of off but it's still a noteworthy attempt.

My Take:
These continue to be some of the rarer and more desirable MOC examples to collectors. If the helmet had been better positioned on the figure (not to mention the kinked leg) I wouldn't be surprised to see this example exceed $1000. As it is, a good solid example for the collection.

When I was a kid, I shot a living room lamp with the chemical gun and the lightbulb exploded. lol.

My Take:
This carded accessory, while not particularly rare, seems to be quite desirable, probably due to the contents. Very nice example here selling for what has become right about the average for the set.

A: i stopped shipping internationally because of problems- primarily associated with customs and costs-i was terrible at estimating them. i will start again in this way ==-== i estimate that it will cost $ 15.00 to ship this, this is higher than the actual cost. once i have the actual cost i will refund the difference of the actual cost plus $1.00 for the packing peanuts and the $ 15.00 i am charging - note this is for parcel international the cheapest way, if you want faster i will requote you. please note i will not ship under any circumstances to any south american countries or mexico. i am also not responsible for custom duties etc.
My Take:
I think this would have sold for more if the seller had included better and additional photos. Compare it to the accessory pak above and you'll see what I mean. I haven't seen one of these on eBay for a while and I'm wondering if they are uncommon?

My Take:
Once again, more photos probably would have brought a better price - the arms to look good on this card which is unusual and more desirable. There is a bit of wear on the edges though, which really shows up on that background.

My Take:
This set is rather common - prices seem to be increasing slightly. It might be due to the approach of the holiday season, when all toys seem to spike upward in value.
