Stephen Salmon's Fake Cat Trac Carded Figures |
Stephen Salmon sent me this image of an assortment of carded MMM figures - if you look closely they resemble those that I've already posted about:
Fake on Right (link to post above) |
- Mattel #6318 Major Matt Mason - top left card
- Figure has silver cuffs and this was only found on the earliest Flight Carded MMM figures
- Gold lettering yet the figure isn't twist-tied to the Cat Trac
- Mattel #6319 Sgt. Storm - bottom left card
- Figure has red helmet which was only used in some art and never produced by Mattel
- Mattel #6319 Sgt. Storm - bottom center card
- Figure has white cuffs and this was only found on the earliest Flight Carded Storm figures
- Figure has short helmet and by the time figures were offered with cat tracs the figures all came with tall helmets
- Mattel #6633 Doug Davis - the bottom right card
- The background and name at card top is much too light in hue, even accounting for fading - it should be a darker green.
- Mattel #6633 Doug Davis - the bottom right card
- Has gold lettering on the bubble and it's fairly accepted that the gold was only used in the very first MMM and Storm cards
- The figure has a short helmet and these were only available on the earliest MMM Flight Carded figure
- The figure has silver-painted cuffs which were never produced by Mattel on a figure other than MMM
John's Notes
I'm fairly certain that this group of figures were all produced by the same person who created the fake Doug Davis that I own. The figures are currently in storage so without viewing the backs it's difficult to confirm with having them in hand. When Stephen gets a chance he'll dig them up and take some snaps of the backs. The dead giveaway is the misspelling of "seperate."

Another dead giveaway is that the font the name is in on both Sgt. Storm and Doug Davis (at the top) is a lighter weight font - the real deal is a bolder weight.
