Toylanta 2024 - Made to Order Vacuform Collegeville Major Matt Mason Masks

Collegeville MMM Mask Mold

Last week I attended Toylanta 2024 to meet up with some OG Major Matt Mason fans including Rick Porter and George Felix. When I came in, after the initial greetings they couldn't wait to show me these fresh Collegeville Major Matt Mason costume masks and told me that one of the dealers, Steve Stovall, had recently purchased the molds on eBay - I completely missed the sale but went back and added it to my eBay Roundup for February 2024.

So, after looking around I was introduced to the Steve Stovall and his friend Steve Bugg and shown where they were set up to make newly minted masks. They were selling them for $20 each to benefit our old pal Buddy Finethy who had been fighting a rather aggressive cancer (Buddy was the former art director for Mellow Mushroom and besides having an amazing GI Joe collection, used to render Mel O. Mushroom and pals - they were a comic strip that acted as context behind the chain as mascots). All Proceeds were to go directly to Buddy's fund.

In any case, the guys had a vacuum setup that used a commercial heat lamp to heat up the sheets of polystyrene held in a frame, then pushed it down to the form that sits in a perforated platform attached to a vacuum pump. Quite effective. Note the back of the form above, that lists all the uses of the mask.
