eBay Roundup for March 2024

Continuing with current Major Matt Mason sales of note, this post is for March 2024 (note that I'm only listing fairly significant completed sales due to rarity or price)...

Vintage 1960s Mattel Major Matt Mason Scorpio Alien Unused in Original Box

Item number: 266737375519
Ended: Mar 31, 2024 5:46 PM
Winning bid: $595.00 ($10.00 USPS Ground Advantage®)

Description:
A Vintage 1960s Mattel Major Matt Mason Scorpio Alien Unused in Original Box. The figure and accessories are mint, still attached to the original box insert. The box has some wear, small tears, creases, and stains. The set is complete with figure, accessories, and original instruction sheet. Please see photos for condition and ask questions if anything is unclear. Will combine shipping on multiple purchases. Add $10 for Priority shipping. Good luck!

My Take:

There was a time when a loose complete Scorpio would sell for around $500-600 (an early toy price guide claimed that it was super rare and valued at $1500 MIB). So many have appeared on eBay since that the price has come down to this level - of course the box isn't much to look at - a mint sealed Scorpio may now be worth $1500 - only time and auctions can tell the tale/

My Take:

Quite a few of these have turned up over the years - I think they used to sell for around $50 but I think $25 reflects how common these are for a MAC item.

From Mattel's 1966-1972 "Man In Space" toy line, Stock No. 6319 - Sgt. Storm Pak.    Major Matt in 1966 was the first of the four MMM figures - Sgt. Storm followed in 1967, Doug Davis in 1968, and Lt. Jeff Long was the last figure released, in 1969.

My Take:

It's been my experience that these German carded MMM figures are very scarce. This one looks better than many that I've seen.

1966 MAJOR MATT MASON SPACE PROBE PAK TOY ON CARD MATTEL (GERMAN VERSION)

Item number: 375294475363
Ended: Mar 18, 2024 10:23 PM
Winning bid: $125.95 ($12.95 USPS Ground Advantage®)

Description:
CARD MATTEL (RARE GERMAN VERSION)

Nice card some shelf wear 2 Stables (Ed: staples?) on right side plastic has lifted up slightly from card nice display This is number 6307. The card is not perfect by any means so please do not be misled. It still makes an awesome display and these are very hard to find.. This is the complete set for the space probe toy from Mattel. Major Matt Mason.

Also, a very nice thing a portion of your proceeds go to help wounded warrior foundation, and I am not new to EBay as I have been away for a few years raising my children and helping the homeless and we will continue to do so. Thank you so much and God bless, please note I always try to ship quick and safe with tracking. Thanks again.😄

My Take:
It's kinda nice that these German Probe Paks are getting some love - for a while there were so many (part of a big case find in Germany) that eBay was flooded with them. I'm guessing that enough spread out amongst collectors that they're starting to become harder to find. Note that all German carded items have the yellowed bubble and card back - different materials were used back in the day to package MMM toys in Germany.

VINTAGE MATTEL MAJOR MATT MASON GAMMA RAY GUARD MIB SEALED RARER BOXED MMM ITEM

Ended: Mar 13, 2024 1:10 PM

Description:

THIS IS HOW I BOUGHT MANY YEARS AGO

My Take:

These chip-box accessories continue to increase in value over time. I think the Gamma Ray-Gard is the most common of the 4 (at least in my experience) but any of them are scarce, especially sealed.

Mattel Leadworks Major Matt Mason Man in Space Jeff Long Figure Gem Mint OSS

Item number: 196283020519
Ended: Mar 9, 2024 11:45 AM
Winning bid: $188.00 ($6.60 Standard Shipping)

Description:

Mattel Leadworks Major Matt Mason Man in Space Jeff Long Figure Gem Mint OSS

Gem. Dead Mint. Original Bag that was opened.

Shipping $6.60 within USA. International $28

International buyers-Direct to you via First Class (I do not use Ebay Global Shipping)

My Take:

I hope whomever read the description understood that this is a knock-off Leadswork figure (it's a copy with an AF painted Matt Mason head). That being said, the carded Leadworks figures have been selling for around $150 each so the price is about right. I think a minty original Mattel Jeff Long would sell in excess of $300.

Item number: 126353458448

MIGHT BE SOME BLACK EDGE TOUCH UP IN A SECTION CANT BE SURE JUST WANT TO MAKE NOTICE OF POSSIBILITY THIS IS HOW I BOUGHT IT

My Take:

These chip-boxes are fairly scarce, especially sealed and in good condition. This is one of the more common of the four (the rarest being the Supernaut Power Limbs). As noted above this sale had a Best Offer so expect it to have sold for 10-15% less than the $425 list price.

Major Matt Mason Space Station 1966 Mattel-Great Condition Complete&Working-Box

Item number: 305360367210
Ended: Mar 8, 2024 10:48 PM
Winning bid: $449.00 (Best offer accepted so probably 10-15% lower) ($53.05 Standard Shipping)

Description:

This Major Matt Mason Space Station from 1966 is a great addition to any toy collector's collection. Made by Mattel in the United States, this space toy is complete and working. The brand, Major Matt Mason, is well-known for its quality and durability. This space station is perfect for any fan of pre-1970 toys, or someone who loves robots, monsters, and space toys.

The toy is in excellent shape, with no damage and very little wear and tear.

Comes With all three console locking pins, telephone and faucet.

Flashing beacon works.

Chair may have been at glued on leg.

Boxes in pretty good shape.

Please see photos and ask questions if needed.

Please see photos for condition and details and ask questions if needed before buying.

Items are sold as is.

Please see my other items for sale!

My Take:

As noted above, this sold to a Best Offer so probably around 10-15% less so around $400. Shipping was from California to Georgia (where I'm based) so rather high for me, less if you're closer, presumably. This is an iconic playset and sort of a must-have. Actually at $400 is a bit of a bargain when you compare it to trying to complete an incomplete station and piecemeal-ing replacement parts with shipping. Of course the box has seen better days with some kid's artwork on the back (seems MMM has viking horns).

Major Matt Mason

Item number: 186334092427
Ended: Mar 8, 2024 4:59 PM
Winning bid: $1000.00 (Best offer accepted so probably 10-15% lower) ($15.00 Standard Shipping)

Description:

This vintage space toy is a must-have for any serious collector. The Major Matt Mason figure from the pre-1970 era is a rare find and is sure to bring back memories of childhood playtime for many. With its intricate design and attention to detail, this toy is a true gem for any fan of robots, monsters, and space toys.

In addition to being a great addition to any collection, this Major Matt Mason figure is in pristine condition. It has never been used and is still in its original packaging. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity to own a piece of retro toy history.

My Take:
As noted above, the seller took a best offer on this slightly beat-up Flight carded figure - it's the more common blue strap with the chubbier head and the card appears a bit malformed to me. Still, these seem to get snatched up quickly as the supply dwindles.

Vintage 1967 Mattel Major Matt Mason SPACE SHELTER PAK #6321- Sealed on Card

Item number: 355507692572
Ended: Mar 2, 2024 6:05 AM
Winning bid: $120.00 ($8.00 Standard Shipping)

Description:

In case you missed my last one I have this other vintage 1967 Mattel's Man In Space Major Matt Mason SPACE SHELTER PAK

Condition: Sealed and unpunched.  The card has bumps to the corners and some creases.  The bubble has a dent on the blue shelter area (see images #7-8).  The decal inside the blister has developed some yellowing as is common with these old decals.  The back of the card has yellowing and some paper bug damage.

Ships out within 1 business day.

My Take:
For some reason this can be a tough card to find - it was available for two years, introduced in 1968 and continuing in 1969. Usually the cards are pretty beat up when found. I think $120 was a good deal for this one, even with the darkening of the back and flaking.
